Here in Franklin, we go from a chilly March to a sweltering July faster than most people expect. That temperature swing is tough on your vehicle’s cooling system, and spring is the perfect time to make sure it’s ready before the real heat arrives.
Your cooling system does one critical job: keep your engine from overheating. It circulates coolant (antifreeze) through the engine to absorb heat, then releases it through the radiator. When something in that system isn’t working right, you’ll know — usually at the worst possible time, on the worst possible road.
What to check this spring:
Coolant level and condition. If your coolant is low or looks brown and murky instead of bright green or orange, it’s time for a flush and refill. Old coolant loses its protective properties and can actually start to corrode the components it’s meant to protect.
Hoses and belts. Spring is a great time to inspect your radiator hoses for cracks, soft spots, or swelling — and your belts for fraying or looseness. These are inexpensive to replace compared to the damage a failed hose or snapped belt can cause.
Thermostat. A stuck thermostat is a common cause of overheating and is often overlooked. If your temperature gauge seems to run high, have it tested.
At Reliable Automotive in Franklin, we’ll inspect your entire cooling system and give you a straight answer on what it needs. Don’t wait until July to find out your cooling system has a problem. Schedule your spring check today.
